Myfaces new site design

Hi there,

We have now two different proposals about the web design. None of them
are definitive and we could get the best of both. So, as Martin has
proposed in another thread let's start a discussion.
I've captured two design snapshots of the two sites:

- Proposal A "Classic" - http://people.apache.org/~baranda/myfaces-classic.png
- Proposal B "Easter" - http://people.apache.org/~baranda/myfaces-easter.png

We have several points of discussion here:

#1 Whether to use an image (as other mavenized apache sites do),
independantly of the ascii-face logo, or not
#2 In case of using an image, decide if the easter "faces" are ok.
#3 Color scheme

For your information, the image of the easter faces is free of
copyright as it comes from a personal picture.

As the creator of proposal B "easter" you can already guess which I
like most ;-), but I have to admit that I have problems to distinguish
some kinds of ambiguous colours, so maybe there are colours
missmatched...

Yes like the maven site but without the banner image. More like the
Struts site (except they do not currently change it for each
subproject.) Sorry but I do not like the Easter Island graphic. Its
"too much" (too busy) IMO (sorry this expression is hard to
translate.)

I think we should keep it simple. I like the "ascii" and feather
logos. I think that is enough imagery for one page.

For the image on the RHS I was thinking that we create images for each
module. Basically a simple text label image: myfaces (top level),
core, commons, tomahawk, sandbox. Since we won't have tabs anymore
its going to be hard to distinguish which website you are looking at.
The images for each of the subprojects will help you tell where you
are in the navigation.

I like option B,

apart from that the lower part is not as easily readable as text on
option A, so a change in color scheme is appropriate.

And I really love the easter-island faces.

Martin

I also like the color scheme of A. Easier to read.
I like the icon of B on the upper-left side (feather + logo).
I don't care one way or another about the easter faces on the
upper-right side of B.

Just my 2 cents, I like proposal B because it's different than other
projects. Proposal A looks the same as every other project.

One suggestion here -- the Easter Island faces, if left on the right
side of the page, should face toward the center of the page. Eye
tracking studies confirm that peoples eyes follow the direction that
faces are pointing on a page.

The mixture is better. I'll try and play around with possible color
schemes later tonight. Also, we should see if Chris Barlow has any
ideas. He's good with artwork and helped up come up with the current
myfaces "feather" logo.

What do you think about the other style changes I made? I like the
"arrow" button for the sections that they have on the maven sites. I
also changed the headers for the tables.

Ok, proposal C could be something like this

Proposal C (aka mixture): http://people.apache.org/~baranda/myfaces-mix.png

Although, banner colours should be readjusted, but it is an idea.

Bruno,

thanks for your work!

I like the "color scheme" of Proposal A (aka classic)
but also like to see a nice image (that easter faces taken from
proposal B (aka easter )).

So, you are the designer. Can you *mix* them?
Proposal C (aka mixture) :-)
