[Bug 4177] New: Use of uninitialized value in quotemeta at SpamAssassin.pm

http://bugzilla.spamassassin.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4177

           Summary: Use of uninitialized value in quotemeta at
                    SpamAssassin.pm
           Product: Spamassassin
           Version: 3.0.2
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: minor
          Priority: P5
         Component: Learner
        AssignedTo: dev@spamassassin.apache.org
        ReportedBy: cacho96@yahoo.com

When executing the command

  sa-learn --no-sync --mbox --ham <mbox>

I get the following error:
Use of uninitialized value in quotemeta at
/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.3/Mail/SpamAssassin.pm line 928.
This line is the following:

  $tag = quotemeta($tag);

My versions are:

  perl-5.8.3-18
  spamassassin-3.0.2-0_21.rhfc2.at

Fedora Core 2, 2.6.8-1.521.

Luis.

PS: Sorry if this bug is duplicated; after an extensive search, I found
many similar bugs, but I wasn't able to find exactly this one. L.

Daniel,

   Before answering, let me correct my last post: the error
appears when testing too.

Good!!
I moved all my /etc/mail/spamassassin/*.cf files (I have a lot) and the error
persisted. However, when moving user_prefs it was recreated and the error was
gone. So, I deleted lines of user_prefs, until I found that the offending
command was the one that inhibits SpamAssassin to rewrite the subjects:

rewrite_header subject

The user_prefs even with this single line gives the error. On the other hand,
either removing the line or adding just anything after "subject" makes the error
dissapear.

   Thanks,

             Luis.

PS: Just for the record, my user_prefs

Hrm.

  foreach my $header ( keys %{$self->{conf}->{rewrite_header}} ) {
    # let the 3.0 decoding do it...
    next if ($hdrs =~ /^X-Spam-Prev-$header:/im);

    dbg ("Removing markup in $header");
    if ($header eq 'Subject') {
      my $tag = $self->{conf}->{rewrite_header}->{'Subject'};
      $tag = quotemeta($tag);
[...]

I guess it is if k/v is 'Subject' => undef, but our conf system shouldn't ever
do that.

This can be of some help.
I only observed this error message for HAM mail.
Spam mail gives no complains.
My spamassassin does not modify the subjects of any message.

L.

this seems to be fixed in the 3.1-svn configuration parser

if it happens again with 3.1, please re-report, thanks
