DO NOT REPLY [Bug 50655] New: clarifications in mod_rewrite's special variable documentation

https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=50655

Summary: clarifications in mod_rewrite's special variable
                    documentation
           Product: Apache httpd-2
           Version: 2.3-HEAD
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: P2
         Component: Documentation
        AssignedTo: docs@httpd.apache.org
        ReportedBy: calestyo@scientia.net

Hi.

It should be clarified, that:
1) SERVER_NAME is not necessarily equal to what is set via ServerName.
It seems that it is actually the same as HTTP_HOST, and can therefore be also a
ServerAlias name.
(IMHO that's quite important to know).

(Better would even be, to change that,.. but I guess it would break many setups
now, wouldn't it?)

2) It might be worth noting, that SERVER_PROTOCOL is not just e.g. "http" or
"https"

Cheers,
Chris.

added reference to UseCanonicalname and UseCanonicalPhysicalPort, but declining
to add pointers to the specific values of CGI-defined variables like
SERVER_PROTOCOL.
