[jira] [Created] (JENA-93) Permit cancelAllowDrain on a per query basis

Permit cancelAllowDrain on a per query basis
--------------------------------------------

                 Key: JENA-93
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/JENA-93
             Project: Jena
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: ARQ
            Reporter: Simon Helsen

Currently, there is a global static variable queryExecutionBase.cancelAllowDrain to permit partial results on cancelled queries.

We would need this ability to be determinable on a per-query basis since we have to mix both use-cases on our back-end and a the same time.

I noticed that the static

    public static boolean cancelAllowDrain = false ;

is deprecated. Why is that?

I am concerned that our (IBM) use cases are not accepted by the Jena community. The javadoc in the code says things like "useful for debugging". We discussed at length why in some cases, a partial result set is quite legitimate.

I have no immediate patch for this, but Andy wrote at some point

"However, it would be easy to change the global to being a lookup
in the context and set a per-instance variable to control abort behavior."

It was deprecated when created so it was clear that it is provides specific behavious for one use case and is not generally to be used.

Also, I am currently testing the cancelAllowDrain behavior and it looks like it is not working properly. It keeps throwing a QueryCancelledException instead of draining the result set
