if you create the object /aa/bb/ with the aws SDK, that's taken as a directory. create one /aa/bb then that's viewed as a file: listings will stop at that point, and if you try to create /aa/bb/cc then you'll get an error, because you can't have a file or directory under a file. If the hadoop fs shell let you do that: it's a bug in the shell
