sorry, I misread your message. I thought you asked HOW instead of "do I
need".

You definitly need some form of mail server (SMTP), unless you can manage
to send mail via non-local machines.

If I am not wrong, POP is some sort of authentication method for
mailboxes. You can either use it or IMAP.
