Security with Tomcat

I have been trying to play with the security controls of Tomcat to do some 
form based authentication of a part of my application.

I have got a form up based around my "border" component, and it seems to 
submit to the right place (j_security_check) since if I alter it I get a 
different error message.

But whatever I do I get the Error page displayed.

I am struggling to work out how to debug it to see what is wrong.  Anyone been 
throught these sort of hoops before.
