Mobile datagrid component integration
Hi,
While "preparing" the potential integration of MobileDataGrid component to the SDK, I ran into an unexpected issue.
It seems that MDG cannot be integrated into the experimental projects, because it's a mobile component, and it relies on mobile-only classes ( such as StyleableTextFiled or MobileSkin).
I have inspected the other experimental components: none of them are mobile only.
Does this mean we need to introduce a new mobileExperimental project ?
Regards,
Maurice

Hi,

The original intent was a place for components that have not been fully tested, been fully localised or not fully documented but in a good working state. It was hoped by releasing them in this way other people would step forward and help out with the missing bits. At that point that could be moved into the apache project or one of the other projects depending on best fit.
Thanks,
Justin

This is not pertaining to just this case, but our strategy in general about
'experimental' swcs. If the intention is to warn the users that these
components have not been thoroughly tested, can we do that in a different
way? ie. README, Release Notes, ASDocs, custom metadata, etc.?
I think it will cause a lot of headache for us and for end users when we
finally make them 'non-experimental'.
Thanks,
Om

StyleableTextField belongs mobilecomponents.swc And MobileSkin belongs to components.swc.
Does this means you are going to add these two swc to the lib-path of experimental.swc ?
Wouldn't that make it unusable in non-mobile apps ?
This is not an affirmation, just a question.

Once, I ran the 'release' target (or maybe a target that creates the binary distribution) and then ran the MakeApacheFlex*** script on that.
The release targets take a while to run though.
Other times, I install the latest SDK with the installer, then swap out the frameworks/libs with the one from the repo.

I agree, I don't want to mix AIR stuff into the repo either. I will find if there is a script that merges the generated SDK and AIR_SDK to another directory.

I don't do that either.
I just wanted to generate an SDK to make sure that everything was in place following the new addition of experimental_mobile.swc (sort of Q&A :-) )
____

I have checked ide/flashbuilder/build.xml (line 129) it copies everything from the env.AIR_HOME directory to the generated SDK.
So it needs to be an standalone AIR SDK.
The other scripts will directly download AIR SDK from Adobe.

Actually, I get this message "adt.jar" not found even when I try to install the SDK from the Prefrences>Flash Builder>Installed Flex SDKs.
It's just that FB will make a number of checks on the SDK
At least, this is what ide/flashbuilder/README_integration_with_Adobe_FlashBuilder.txt says.

You can try the makeApacheFlexForIDE to convert your repo to an FB-compatible SDK. Personally, I don't do that because I'm trying to mix as few external things as possible into the repo folders, but others do.
AIR is incompatibly licensed which is why it isn't mixed in by default. I don't use FB projects for development in the SDK. I just use command-line tools and occasionally run the 'release' target and the IDE scripts or use a recent SDK and overlay a SWC or two.

Hi,
I have seen there is an ide/ folder in flex-sdk/ with scripts and even a build for FB.
Maybe I should run build.xml there, or makeApacheFlexForIDE.bat to have an installable SDK?
Also, I notices the scripts will copy the contents from env.AIR_HOME to the SDK, which means you cannot use an AIR-enabled SDK as env.AIR_HOME but you need
A "pure" AIR SDK.
Is that correct ?

Yes, but it seems it's a lot of work, and has many impacts on the SDK to introduce a new SWC.
(impacts global build files and config files, etc...).
Plus the multi-lingual resource bundles (although they would be empty for now).
