Assembly Plugin: Indexing a jar with dependencies

I have successfully used the assembly plugin to create an executable jar 
with dependencies as explained here:

The jar plugin has an option that will index the jar to speed up 
classloading.  I have not been able to configure the assembly plugin to 
create an index.  Any suggestions?
