to run the tests, install Nose and run `nosetests` from trunk/:
$ apt-get install python-setuptools
$ easy_install nose
$ nosetests
one test fails -- there is a fix attached to CASSANDRA-101.

add system tests. each method in test/system/test_server.py exercises part of the thrift API, and manages cleaning out data files and starting a fresh server for each test.

(you can try installing nose via apt but the version ubuntu 8.10 had packaged was not recent enough)
