with or without property ?

Hi,

I'm newbie with nested tags and I try to understand how works the
<nested:submit>.
In the API it's written that is similar to <html:submit> but if I write
this:
<%@page contentType="text/html"%>
<%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/struts-nested.tld" prefix="nested" %>
<html>
<head>
  <title>NeXt:Recursion-Tutorial</title>
</head>
<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF">

<nested:form action="/recurser-action.do">

 <nested:write property="beanName" />
 <hr>
 <nested:nest property="monkeyTree">
  <jsp:include page="treenode.jsp"/>
 </nested:nest>

 <br>
<nested:submit>OK</nested:submit>
</nested:form>

</body>
</html>

It results by a null pointer exception:
10:00:12,872 ERROR [Engine] StandardWrapperValve[jsp]: Servlet.service()
for servlet jsp threw exception
java.lang.NullPointerException

.....

I saw it was because it's search for a property so I tried:

<%@page contentType="text/html"%>
<%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/struts-nested.tld" prefix="nested" %>
<html>
<head>
  <title>NeXt:Recursion-Tutorial</title>
</head>
<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF">

<nested:form action="/recurser-action.do">

 <nested:write property="beanName" />
 <hr>
 <nested:nest property="monkeyTree">
  <jsp:include page="treenode.jsp"/>
 </nested:nest>

 <br>
<nested:submit property="root">OK</nested:submit>
</nested:form>

</body>
</html>

It works ! :-)

But I didn't understand why, can someone explain me ?

thanks
Iris

Basebeans is mail-to-news gateway? If so, you might try www.gmane.org.

news.basebeans.com is up

I shut it down when it double posted, and now I am adding it back up slowly.

It will ofer only a choice few usefull news lists (pgSQL, Axis, JDBC,
etc.) and most likely filter OT: posts.

I will post when news.basebeans.com is fully operatonal.
