[~stoty], should we wait for PHOENIX-6063, or commit this with the intent to streamline further?
I have verified that this is all that's needed to use the embedded 5.1.0-SNAPSHOT client within PrestoSQL.
(Well... I had to maven-install my own HBase built against the right version of Hadoop, which is a problem since Phoenix pulls its own version of Hadoop. For any client using MapReduce APIs (as the PrestoSQL connector does) these need to match.)
