Impala can set the 'avro.schema.url' table property on any tables but can't unset it even if the table is not in AVRO format:
{code:sql}
create table mytbl(i int) stored as textfile;
alter table mytbl set tblproperties('avro.schema.url'='hdfs:////test-warehouse/avro_schemas/functional/alltypes.json');

alter table mytbl unset tblproperties('avro.schema.url');

ERROR: AnalysisException: Unsetting the 'avro.schema.url' table property is not supported for Avro table.

Hive is able to do this without any errors.
