The following sentence in http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-5.5-doc/
config/globalresources.html is therefore misleading:

"With the exception of <Environment> values, the resources defined in this 
element are not visible in the per-web-application contexts unless you 
explicitly link them with <ResourceLink> elements."

In my understanding (not a native english speaker) it implies, that 
<Environment> values _are_ visible _without_ explicitly linking them (what is 
obviosly not true).

So imho this is either a bug in the documentation or a bug in the 
implementation.
