As has been [discussed here|https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/BIGTOP-2104?focusedCommentId=14984692&page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#comment-14984692] Spark master 1.5.1 ignores the setting of SPARK_MASTER_IP and binds to the IP address instead of the hostname. This makes workers being unable to associate with the master if they use hostname of the master host.
