[Bug 69950] New: Apachectl configtest does not honor alternate config file (-f option) [with fix]

https://bz.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=69950

            Bug ID: 69950
Summary: Apachectl configtest does not honor alternate config
                    file (-f option) [with fix]
           Product: Apache httpd-2
           Version: 2.4.66
          Hardware: PC
                OS: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: support
          Assignee: bugs@httpd.apache.org
          Reporter: geoff@minaret.biz
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 40151

apachectl.in file from Apache 2.4.66 with fixes

apachectl configtest ignores any passed-in "-f CONFIGFILE" option when it calls
"httpd -t". Any scripts that rely on "apachectl configtest" before stopping
httpd, for example, will always be checking the default CONFIG file and not the
alternate file.

I have attached an updated "apachectl.in" file which fixes the problem and
cleans up the various ways ACMD and ARGV are used.

Thanks for all you do.

[Bug 69950] Apachectl configtest does not honor alternate config file (-f option) [with fix]

--- Comment #1 from abernal <ab...@apache.org> ---
A fix is available as a pull request: https://github.com/apache/httpd/pull/869

apachectl configtest now passes the arguments that follow the command on to
httpd, so "apachectl configtest -f file" tests the given file instead of the
default configuration. configtest without arguments behaves as before. The
option has to follow the command, "apachectl -f file configtest" is not
handled. The pull request also adds a sentence to the apachectl manual page
source and a changes entry.

--- Comment #2 from abernal <ab...@apache.org> ---
Committed to trunk as r1939427: apachectl configtest now shifts off its own
command word and passes the remaining arguments on to "httpd -t", so "apachectl
configtest -f file" tests the given file. configtest without arguments, and the
other commands, behave as before.
