By adding -b "oraclelicense=accept-securebackup-cookie" to the curl command, the download succeeds. It has to be added to the curl command in all install java scripts.
Reason:
The oracle download page wants you to accept on a cookie before downloading.
This works fine for me:
curl $url -L -b "oraclelicense=accept-securebackup-cookie" --silent --show-error --fail --connect-timeout 60 --max-time 600 --retry 5 -o $tmpdir/`basename $url`
