Problem using -PARAM in command line

Hi

I'm trying to use the -PARAM with a stylesheet. I have declared my
parameter in my stylesheet using <xsl:param
name="parameter"></xsl:param>
When I call xalan I use -PARAM parameter value without any result
Can anyone help me I'm really in a urge!
