Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
        Key: MAVEN-74
Summary: Maven doesn't work correctly when sources are generated
       Type: Bug

     Status: Assigned
   Priority: Major

 Time Spent: Unknown
  Remaining: Unknown

    Project: maven
   Fix Fors:
             1.1
   Versions:
             1.0-beta-7

   Assignee: Jason van Zyl
   Reporter: Jason van Zyl

Description:
In the jakarta-turbine-fulcrum build the sources are compiled from target/src but the check for the existence that directory occurs in driver.jelly before any goals are executed. So Maven thinks that the directory doesn't exist (it doesn't when it checks) even though it is created before the compile is attempted. Need to move the check somewhere that makes sense in the context of generated sources.
