Workaround for updating node type definitions

Hello,

I initially load custom node types for my Sling instance via a bundle
containing a CND file.  It seems there is no way to update those nodes types
through the Sling interface once created.  What¹s the recommended workaround
for this?  Seems like maybe going to Jackrabbit may be the only way?  Does
anyone have a utility for refreshing a schema?
