Please check if MR jobs are working fine. Also do apply the patch at HADOOP-8794, it perhaps misses a few more changes but has the bare minimum changes needed already.

My bad on the +1. I think we should revert, there are several place where it has not been updated. Also there are other YARN_ env vars, they should all be renamed to HADOOP_YARN_. Plus, with the patch, I'm getting failures with custom AMs, I believe it is due to the changes not being through out the code/scripts/config files.

Vinod, verified the changes in YARN and Common projects. Also checked if there are any leftover occurrences of YARN_HOME. Both of these look fine to me. So +1

I split the common changes - see HADOOP-8794. Will update that patch with any missing updates.

Will fix the doc updates.
Will fix the other stuff too, this was the bare minimum I needed to make the jobs work.

My bad on the +1. There are several place where it has not been updated. Also there are other YARN_ env vars, they should all be renamed to HADOOP_YARN_. Plus, with the patch, I'm getting failures with custom AMs, I believe it is due to the changes not being through out the code/scripts/config files.

Yes, you are right. But I don't think we need to support YARN_HOME since, like Hitesh mentioned, none of the releases so far are deemed stable.
I understand some users will need update their scripts, but it's good we are doing it early in the releases.
FYI, there are few more like issues like https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/MAPREDUCE-4649 which will impact Bigtop. How do you think we should drive this? I can just open tickets on Bigtop JIRA if that is fine.
