The issue is that merge commits are one off squash commits of the branch which has the history, and I have to manually rebuild them every time a change is requested. I have to manually link to the new squash commit every time and it doesn't auto-update because I would have to clutter the namespace in my repo with a dedicated branch for every squash to have a link that updates every time. This branch is small so I did get destructive, but for larger changes I would keep the history.
