[Bug 69371] New: DefaultServlet's HTML listing renders incomplete paths for directory and its parent

https://bz.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=69371

            Bug ID: 69371
Summary: DefaultServlet's HTML listing renders incomplete paths
                    for directory and its parent
           Product: Tomcat 9
           Version: 9.0.95
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: major
          Priority: P2
         Component: Catalina
          Assignee: dev@tomcat.apache.org
          Reporter: michaelo@apache.org
  Target Milestone: -----

mod_autoindex

Consider your have a context at /backend-dev with the servlet mapped at:
>	<servlet-mapping>
> <servlet-name>webdav</servlet-name>
> <url-pattern>/dav/*</url-pattern>
>	</servlet-mapping>

From a user's PoV the full path should appear in the HTML rendering, but not
rooted from the context only. The reason is that the use does not know anything
about contexts, Tomcat and how webapps are deployed. This technical information
is opaque. In fact it is confusing that the browser URL shows one path, but the
listing presents only a subpath. A counter example from mod_autoindex has been
attached.

--- Comment #4 from Remy Maucherat <re...@apache.org> ---
I am not convinced and I consider the current way better: it displays the
actual file paths (the servlet/context paths being the actual artificial
details).

Enhancement to add an option to add the prefix to the displayed folder paths.

--- Comment #3 from Michael Osipov <mi...@apache.org> ---
If the context-sensitivity is still required, then this should be an opt-in via
servlet config.

The expectation is to print the same path as in D:href for a DAV response.

(In reply to Remy Maucherat from comment #4)

The user does not know about this technical detail. The servlet or Tomcat are
opaque and might be even behind a reverse proxy.

> Enhancement to add an option to add the prefix to the displayed folder paths.

Yes, at least this.
