shiro-guice is a wrapper around shiro core, and unfortunately uses the guice SPI in a way that broke between 3.0 and 4.0 (see SHIRO-493). Consider the possibility of removing use of its guice wrapper in favor of standard guice-servlet idioms and configuring the shiro-core object graph directly.

Alternatively investigate contributing a patch upstream.
