Re: [jira] [Reopened] (AMBARI-11757) HDP: remove ubuntu from repos list

Hi David,

The JIRA title is bit misleading as the goal is to hide Ubuntu as a deployment option for HDP versions for which a default/verified repo is not available.

At this point, the Ubuntu repo for HDP-2.3 is not available. So the Ubuntu section in the repoinfo.xml associated with HDP-2.3 needs to be removed so that the user is not presented with the option to deploy on Ubuntu. Thats the scope of the changes - https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/AMBARI-12077

It is still possible for any user to add the section (and restart Ambari) if there is a valid repo. There is no code change in Ambari to remove support for Ubuntu and in fact earlier version of HDP or other stacks can still be used to deploy on Ubuntu as before.

thanks
Sumit

Hi all,

Does this mean Ambari will no longer support ubuntu? Can you explain more
of the reasoning behind this decision? Has it been discussed in the
community (mailing lists, etc) somewhere and I just missed it?

Thank you,
David
