Plans for ps or pcl output rather than PDF?

I'd like to use FOP to generate files that will go directly to a printer. Is there any way to do that now? 

Can one send PDF to a printer from Java? Are there printer drivers that will handle it?

Or are there Java PDF to PS or PDF to PCL converters?
