What are the SOAP advantages?
Can anybody give me a brief summary of the advantages of using SOAP over Servlet/HTTP or CORBA/IIOP (Assume they all can transmit XML messages)?
Thanks,

CORBA/IIOP is usually proprietary to an ORB and requires some heavy libraries on the client making the call and more often then not requires
special ports to be open...whereas SOAP is much simpler, text based and works across HTTP on port 80 thus getting around many of the firewall
issues
Servlet/HTTP is really just an improvement of CGI..everything is string based and it gets ugly and doesn't have any true OO aspects about it
SOAP has all the marshalling/unmarshalling and interoperability that makes CORBA so nice and the simplicity of HTTP so that you're not distributing
stubs and skeletons
