Adding a switch turned out to be difficult: the type extractor class is a static utils class, which means we can only set a static vaiable to parameterize its behavior, but this may also break when the same JVM is reused to submit multiple jobs. Therefore, it's better to just break state-comaptiblity as it is, and rely on the state migration tool to do the work. Closing this issue.
