Entry in theme.xml to identify a mobile theme.

Hi Devs,

There is a requirement to identify whether a theme is a mobile ready or
not.So i am planning to add an additional meta data entry in the theme.xml.
So an extract would appear as below.

<id>example1</id>
<name>Example1: minimal theme</name>
<author>Dave Johnson</author>
<mobile>true</mobile>

It is not a mandatory field and not defining will set it to default value
"false".Would <isMobile> more appropriate than this tag since it is a
boolean.

That sounds reasonable.

I agree with the point that dektop will mislead since Theme work for other
similar devices in display size. While brainstorming i got the
word "standard". would like to know the feed back on that.

Thanks

I don't know if "desktop" is the best term since the current UI does work

I think having "type" would be reasonable. There might be scenarios like
"touch" , "tablet" kind of specific devices.Where
developers are looking to develop device optimized themes and set them.

So what would be the proper value for a desktop theme. Because that has to
be our default value in case the "type" parameter is not set.
would <type>desktop</type> a good value to set in a theme by default.
(This will be set at the ThemeParser )

Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, I agree. Type seems like a better choice and more "future proof"

Will we ever have themes other than HTML or Mobile? What about TV or
something like that? I guess we could change it in the future, but can't
help but think "type" might be better.
