RE: Parse error in Turbine sample app - help... ==> Resolution
Thanks for the help, guys. It sort of put me on the right track, i.e. I
looked into build issues and found the cause of the problem.
It has to do with incompatibilities between ant 1.3a and ant 1.4, i.e the
build tool.
I started building the Turbine 2.1 sample app a few days ago. All was well.
I used ant 1.3. I then went on to the 'decoupled' Torque and tried to build
the tutorial app without success. After a few frustrating hours I tracked
the problem down to the version of ant (1.3) I was building with - there was
a class missing. So I upgraded to ant 1.4. Torque was now a healthy babe
showing off its persistence layer. I then went back to Turbine intending to
continue with my development work. But now it didn't work: the Parse error
stopped me in my tracks. The exception message seems to point to the parser
so I spent fruitless hours going down that blind alley.
When I started looking at the build process, I focussed on the ant versions.
Note that the tdk source page states that it uses ant1.3a. So I reverted
back to ant 1.3 and Turbine works fine. I guess that when I go back to
Torque I'll have to use ant 1.4. (There does seem to be a more fundamental
issue here but I assume that later versions of Turbine are buing built with
ant1.4).
Hope this helps other families avoid the pain we went through :-)
