>Description:
Hi
we tried to establish a password protected access in one subtree of our www
pages.
The apache is installed by dinstall and running well, so we wanted to add the
password protection.
1. I modified access.conf
2. I inserted .htaccess in my own homepage (for using it while experimenting)
3. I created a .htpasswd by using htpasswd
4. I sent a SIGUP to the apache process
5. I tried to access my homepage and got an error message.
Here is a protocol of the actions we did:
Part of our access.conf in /etc/apache:
# access.conf: Global access configuration
# Online docs at http://www.apache.org/
# This file defines server settings which affect which types of services
# are allowed, and in what circumstances.
# Each directory to which Apache has access, can be configured with respect
# to which services and features are allowed and/or disabled in that
# directory (and its subdirectories).
# Originally by Rob McCool
# This should be changed to whatever you set DocumentRoot to.
##<Directory /var/web/webspace>
<Directory /home/www-data/webspace>
....
# Controls who can get stuff from this server.
order allow,deny
allow from all
</Directory>
<Directory /home/www-data/webspace/staff>

>How-To-Repeat:
try to access
http://www.ra.informatik.uni-stuttgart.de/staff/staff.html
and then access Klemens Krause
>Fix:
There is probably something wrong or missing in a configuration file.
BTW: our /home/www-data/webspace is mounted from another computer
