[jira] [Closed] (AMQ-8254) KahaDB index does not shrink on cleaning in-use data files

Christopher L. Shannon closed AMQ-8254.
---------------------------------------
    Resolution: Duplicate

I am closing this as a duplicate because the bug portion of this (the unclean shutdown and pages growin) is already tracked in amq-7080 and the index growing is just how KahaDB works. It will grow and generally becomes stable with the normal use case of the broker but the current design it doesn't shrink. That would be an entirely new feature and not a bug report.

>
> KahaDB index keeps growing over time which occupies broker disk space.
> The index does not shrink when in-use journal files are cleared after messages from the broker are consumed.
> Further, on unclean shutdown of the broker the known free pages are lost and no longer tracked. This causes new pages to be created which takes up further more disk space.
