[jira] [Commented] (SOLR-14444) Ref Guide Redesign Phase 2: Page Organization Overhaul

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-14444?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=17186741#comment-17186741 ]

Alexandre Rafalovitch commented on SOLR-14444:
----------------------------------------------

This is exciting! I don't have specific deep thoughts yet, but I certainly have some things that I find confusing.

One example is that I think solrconfig.xml is buried too deep currently. Mostly because of the request handlers and schemaless mode. It should be explained/referenced much earlier as people need to understand what that final part of the URL is and that they can create their own query end points with defaults. As a counter-point to myself, maybe if we have very little in solrconfig.xml and the rest in the overlay, we could drive the conversation there instead. But something along these lines.

> SOLR-14173 changed the look & feel of the Ref Guide, and left one glaring problem unresolved: our top-level categories are far too many for that sort of design.
> This issue will track a full reconsideration of the Ref Guide organization. I have a couple of thoughts and will update this issue with those when I get started on it; for now this is a placeholder issue for future work.
