Which JDK to use for SSL.

I was looking at the document: Setting up Apache Tomcat and a Simple Apache SOAP Client for SSL Communication. which I found at http://cvs.apache.org/viewcvs.cgi/xml-soap/java/docs/install/FAQ_Tomcat_SOAP_SSL.html
and I noticed that they were using jdk 1.3 for the examples. Is 1.3 required?  Can I use jdk1.2.2_006?
