This appears to be addressed by [PR #18181](https://github.com/apache/hudi/pull/18181) (commit `b634262f060a`, since version `1.2.0`), which introduced the new config `hoodie.metadata.auto.delete.partitions` (default `true`).
When set to `false`, both `HoodieTable.maybeDeleteMetadataTable()` and `HoodieTable.deleteMetadataIndexIfNecessary()` short‑circuit, so flipping a per‑index `hoodie.metadata.*.enable` flag in the writer config will no longer silently drop the corresponding MDT partition — users must explicitly drop indexes via `DROP INDEX` or the hudi‑cli. This is the recommended setting for production datasets with multiple writers.
The default value still preserves the previous behavior for backwards compatibility, so closing this as fixed assumes the original ask was to provide a way to opt‑in to safe behavior. If the intent was instead to make the safe behavior the default, that's a separate discussion worth a follow‑up. Otherwise this issue can be closed.
