[jira] [Commented] (FLUME-748) Create metric collection infrastructure

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLUME-748?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=13407512#comment-13407512 ]

Arvind Prabhakar commented on FLUME-748:
----------------------------------------

I went through the attached patch and a few other implementation choices that have been discussed and found that most of them had a significant impact on the current implementation of the system.

As a result, I had to take an alternative approach that relatively less intrusive to the system and offers a mechanism that allows the system to be instrumented in a way that makes sense from consumer perspective. I will be submitting a patch for review soon that embodies this implementation. At this time, only five components are instrumented which are: Avro Source, File Channel, Memory Channel, Avro Sink and HDFS Event Sink. The other components can be instrumented as we go along.

I will post more details behind the implementation on the review itself.
