[jira] [Commented] (LEGAL-541) Relaxing No Advertisement of CI or Nightly Builds

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LEGAL-541?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=17210564#comment-17210564 ]

Roman Shaposhnik commented on LEGAL-541:
----------------------------------------

This makes sense to me, but you should realize that this is not really a Legal, but rather a policy issue.

So I suggest that this gets brought up either on comdev@ or directly on board@

> Relaxing No Advertisement of CI or Nightly Builds
> -------------------------------------------------
>
> Key: LEGAL-541
> URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LEGAL-541
> Project: Legal Discuss
> Issue Type: Question
> Reporter: Dave Fisher
> Priority: Major
>
> In reference to http://www.apache.org/legal/release-policy.html#publication and http://www.apache.org/legal/release-policy.html#host-rc give conflicting information and it seems that this "no advertising" rule has caused many projects to instead count on vendors to offer nightlies to the community.
> I think that #publication should be rewritten to make it clear where developer information can be found in the same way as how to find the source code repository.
> To publication I would add an additional paragraph like:
> "The project website may have a separate webpage distinct from the download page where interested developers can find information about the development community including the location of repositories, ci, and nightly builds. There should be a disclaimer that anyone who uses a nightly build takes the risk that there are potential technical and legal risks."
> Thoughts?
