fop.sh - does it exist?

What the heck is it and where do I find it???

I can find /usr/share/sgml/docbook/xsl-stylesheets/fo/fop.xsl but I find
no fop.sh.

Any ideas on what the RUN_FOP command should REALLY do?

doc/book/Makefile contains a search for fop.sh, but I don't know what
the parameters are that should be passed.

Who is in charge of this???

Thanks. :)

Yeah, actually, that's how I got hold of the xsl - from the readme -
figured out what RPM I needed based on the filename.

I wasn't sure what the fop stuff was all about because I had seen a
fop.xsl in the docbook files, so I *crossed my finger* and hoped I
didn't have to install yet something else.

Btw, when I go get a fop RPM, it asks for

avalon-logkit
batik >= 0:1.5
jpackage-utils >= 0:1.5

So I was attmepting to find a short cut. Guess there isn't one and I'll
have to bite the bullet and install all of those to do a stock build.

Guess that's yet something else to add toe the Mandrake requirements if
you want documentation in PDF or whatever.

Btw, I did see the README.

I was seriously trying to avoid just piling on random tarballs.

Seeing as this package manager thing is what I'm trying to build. :)

But I do appreciate the heads-up. :-)

Did you bother to read the gigantic README file sitting in doc/book/ ?

It explains everything: what xslt is, what fop is, and how to set things
up so you can compile the book.

  Yes, it does.

You use an XSLT processor to convert the Docbook XML into XML-FO
(http://www.w3.org/TR/xsl/). XSL-FO is an XML structure that
describes how a document should look on paper (i.e. the FO document
is the "presentation" version of the "structure-only" book.xml).

You then use Jakarta FOP (fop.sh) to convert the XML-FO XML data into
a PDF (or RTF, or whatever other outputs FOP supports).

Daniel, does it do anything different than fop.xsl - that's from the
apache xml project too.

Or do I have to mess up my Mandrake install w/ this thing that claims
lives and salaries? lol

FOP is an XSL-FO to PDF convertor from the Apache group. Get
  it here:

    http://xml.apache.org/fop/index.html

It's written in Java, so you'll need a JVM to run it. The "fop.sh"
wrapper is a simplified command-line interface for rendering XSL-FO
  XML documents into PDF.

If you're running Debian, get it with:

    apt-get install libfop-java

  which contains the "fop.sh" wrapper.
