mod_perl status

  o mod_perl
    - stable: 1.24_01 (released October 10, 2000) [1]
    - development: 1.24_02-dev [2]
  o Apache
    - stable: 1.3.14 (released October 13, 2000) [3]
    - development: 1.3.15-dev [4]
  o Perl
    - stable: 5.6 (released March 23, 2000) [5]
    - development: 5.7 [6]

module announcements

  o Apache-SessionManager 0.06 - a Transparent Session Manager module,
it will get (and optionally set) a Session ID from a client
request. It is supposed to complement Apache::Session, which can
be used as the backend session store. [7] [8]

mailing list highlights

It was a slow week on the mod_perl list - attendees of ApacheCon
Europe must have found themselves amid copious amounts of fermented
  beverage...

o The idea of using Apache as a pure DBI::ProxyServer is now
floating around and looking for takers [9]

o Related threads on how to get Apache::ASP divert its output from
    STDOUT to a filter [10] [11] [12]

o What started out as a report on ApacheCon Europe turned into a
thread discussing mod_backhand (a load-balancing module for apache
that is really worth checking out [13]), templating (of course),
and a few other things [14]

o How do you pound away at Apache to do some benchmarking? ab, the
Apache benchmarking utility, or HTTPD::ApacheBench, a perl
    interface to ab [15]

FAQ of the week

o I'm trying to use DBD::Oracle under mod_perl on linux - it works
just fine standalone, but not under mod_perl...

There is a problem with the Makefile produced by DBD::Oracle 1.03
and above: it does not pass the -R$ORACLE_HOME/lib option to the
linker. There are a few solutions, requiring either running
ldconfig or editing Makefile.PL - all are can be found in the
mod_perl or DBI users list archives ([16] for example)
