Xalan J-2 and DOMSource Bug - Anyone ever made it work?

All kinds of problems when trying to use a DOMSource reference in either the
TransformerFactory's newTransformer method or in the Transformer's transform
method.  Usually ends up with an exception such as:

java.lang.NoSuchMethodError
at org.apache.xpath.DOM2Helper.getNamespaceOfNode(DOM2Helper.java:348)
