   @matteosal 
   I tried to reproduce the slowdown with your configuration on a machine with I9-7940X CPU but the performance loss wasn't as severe as in your case.
   I got ~153 inputs/sec with mxnet 2.0 and ~165 inputs/sec with mxnet 1.6 using the script you provided.
   Could you please share more details on the hardware config you used in the benchmarks, so I can try to reproduce the slowdown?
