Page Title Contest

Hi,

Because title graphics of the page at
http://localhost:8080/cocoon/documents/cocoon-links.html does not fit
into space allowed, I would like to start contest on better title for
this page.

Currently it is titled as:

"Web Sites Providing Information About Cocoon"

but on the generated graphics fits only:

  "s Providing Information About Cocoon"

which is (IMHO) does not sound very good. Please, provide/vote variants
for better (shorter) title.

Vadim

 "External Cocoon Info"

?

:-)

Changes committed and svg stuff removed.

The docs now have these enhancements:
1. menu items are in text
2. page title is in text
3. pages have new clean style courtesy of Stefano
4. added Stefano's explanation on how to write mails
5. the docs are generated with the TreeProcessor
6. the docs generation uses JispStore

Please check and modify at will.

As soon as Gump gets the <site> tag I'm going to add the documentation
generation to the gump build.

Same here, enough showoff of dynamic raster generation, let's get to do
something that works!

I've done it, and the docs are *way* faster to generate :-)
The site is much cleaner now with also Stefano's (IIRC) recent changes to
the style.

I've not yet committed it because I have to go now, and I didn't test the
pages well enough, but will ASAP.

Now Gump is getting ready to make automatic updates to the sites by taking
the result of a doc build, and as soon as it's ready, I will set it up for
Cocoon.
Next step then is migrating to the Forrest style, but that will take a bit
more time.

BTW, the Treeprocessor is far less resource hungry than the compiled
sitemap, and for this reason I'm using that for the generation on
http://jakarta.apache.org/poi/ . Shall we use it also for Cocoon?

-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
   Remider for the future:
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+

SVG images in every site page result in a great performance hit.

Thanks for the reply.

Konstantin already gave me the same direction.

I am trying to focus on the Cocoon Form Handling problem, so that we can
*finally* check in code that many people will be happy with and webapp
frameworks based on Struts won't seem like a technological quantum leap
compared to Cocoon.

As soon as I can though, I'll try to help with Forrest.

Cheers,

The Forrest project (type "cvs checkout xml-forrest" and see it
yourself) is trying to fix this.

There is no mention on the web site yet (we'll do when we are ready to
show something) but we are fully aware of the above issue and we are
doing something to fix it.

I am not sure if this is OT, but every time I load the xml.apache.org site,
the navigation bar on the right, doesn't load quite right. It takes another
refresh to fix this. In addition it is slow, at least slower than
jakarta.apache.org.
Doesn't have that quick and slick impression that jakarta pages have.
Does it make sence to reduce the images from the web site?
I heard from some of the Apache board members that 90% of the bandwidth for
the apache site goes to the xml. pages, even though jakarta. get more hits.

I just want Cocoon to be getting as many impressions as possible, because it
deserves it.

I agree that we should _stop_ using the generated _SVG_ in the docs.
It makes the docs generation slooow, the download slooow, and the javascript
gives you errors if the image is not yet loaded.

For now, we can easily change the site so that text can be used instead of
the SVG generated gifs; it would keep the L&F of the site like the other
xml.apache ones and also solve these problems.

The big site update is going to come with Forrest
(forrest-dev-subscribe@xml.apache.org)

:-)

I can see a better solution ...
We should stop using the stupid generated banner images
completely. If the banner was just plain text then we could
stay with longer, more descriptive page titles.

The "build printer-docs" does it this way already. It would
be easy to adapt the match from that stylesheet instead.
