[Issue 124621] New: Custom size paper ignored for printing

https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=124621

          Issue ID: 124621
        Issue Type: DEFECT
           Summary: Custom size paper ignored for printing
           Product: Writer
           Version: 4.0.1
          Hardware: Other
                OS: Linux32
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: major
          Priority: P3
         Component: printing
          Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
          Reporter: frankaen@interia.pl

Xubuntu 13.10
HP CP1215

Writer does not print properly custom size paper.
It prints it out as the closest paper format which cuts off some of the text.
Custom size is ignored during setting printing options, however a document odt
has a custom size, and the printer has a custom size paper as the option.
But such an option does not exist in Writer printing option list, when trying
to set printing from Writer. There are many different formats (depending on the
drivers) but no Custom.
Precisely the same document is printed correctly from Windows.
What indicates Writer bug is the fact that the same document is printed
correctly from Xubuntu, on the same printer (same drivers), but as PDF, from
PDF Viewer. This other software has the option to set custom size in printing
properties. This is a workaround (odt > pdf > printing).

I point it as major because different problems with printing custom sizes have
lasted for years, but they have small nuances, and no attention is put to solve
it out.
Nuances depend on printers, OS, OO version but one thing is common: problems
with printing custom size paper.

--- Comment #2 from frankaen@interia.pl ---
Document page size in OO (any version since at least 3.2.1, also LO any version
- same problems):
210 mm height / 165 mm width.
The problem exists on 12.04 LTS Ubuntu, Mint and some other Linuxes I tried on
VMware.

Steps:

1. printer driver/software, both HPLIP and foo2hp:
paper size set to Custom;

2. OO

2.1. Printing options (Ctrl+P);
in the preview on the left the document is cut from the right, size indicated
above the preview is either Letter or A5 (or any other);

2.2. Properties > Paper
no Custom Paper Size, only some ready, standard formats, also no possibility to
Add Custom Size (this option is available in WinXP/Vista/7/8);
The only choice is to set it to A5 or similar, but then the printout is cut as
the printer prints for different dimensions.

[In PDF Viewer point 2.2. works fine, there is a possibility to add Custom Size
in printing properties, name it and so on.]

So specifing it is a lack of possibility of setting Custom Size in Printing
Properties in OO, and using it respectfully. That is why I consider this as
major. Custom printing size is one of the basic software options.
