Deserializing a custom object

Custom serialization I can do. It's straightforward enough.
Deserialization, I can't quite figure out. The only example classes I've
seen are the DataSer and Array/BeanSerializer.
Isn't there ANY more explanation on how to create one of these?

The pattern/design for this at least must be documented somewhere?? Or I
could use a decent example.
Can somebody point me somewhere helpful?

Thanks,
Ed
