Want Document NOT Element. But How ?

Does anybody ever tried to get an XML document instead of an element ?

The web service I'm dealing with returns an XML document NOT an element thus 
I got a response of :

No response
Generated fault:
    Fault Code = SOAP-ENV:Server
    Fault String = java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: I only know how to 
serialize an 'org.w3c.Element'

Is there any workaround for this ? I've combed through the archives at 
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com but found none.

Wait before you reply, please dont tell me to modify the web service to 
return elements instead coz that is just plain stupid .... and I dont have 
the rights to change it anyway :(
