anyType maps to Java Object type. When you assign a String to it.( only String), AXIS1.4 does not retuen xsi:type xs:string as AXIS 1.2 beta does, which is right. AXIS 1.4 randomly return any Schema type registed as String.
AXIS 1.2
<referenceId xsi:type="xsd:string">20001</referenceId>

AXIS 1.4 (Wrong)
<referenceId xsi:type="ns3:SubscriberNumber_Type" xmlns:ns3="http://service.wellsfargo.com/entity/communication/phone/2003/">20001</referenceId>
Note: SubscriberNumber_Type is registered as Sting in AXIS 1.4 Server.
