Concern here is not everyone uses Prometheus for metrics. Should be implemented in a way that is pluggable via a common interface so metrics should exported so that any monitoring system, and then Prometheus is just an implementation that could sit external of the project. So should someone want an influx, or commercial tool then simply a plugin is needed. 

 

As like argument for kafka plugin impl i proposed a while back, these implemented plugins should sit separate from project.
