Validating against schema for schemas

Hi all,

Has anyone been able to successfully validate an XSD against the
normative schema for schemas defined by the Part 1 spec?

When I tried this with Xerces 2.1.0 and other recent versions, I get the
following exception about "xs:anySimpleType". In this example, test.xml
is a trivial <xs:schema/> document containing no content. Is there a
workaround? I tried defining "xs:anySimpleType" as a type derived from
"xs:anyType" but what I did did not seem to work.

% java SAXLocalNameCount -xsdss XMLSchema.xsd test.xml
Exception in thread "main" org.xml.sax.SAXException: Error: URI=null
Line=1348: st-props-correct.4.1: The type definition is not a valid
restriction with repect to the base type 'xs:anySimpleType'.
