Redirecting from openjena.org wiki

It would require disabling the /wiki alias in the apache site 
configuration file.

Not perfect, but it might catch a reasonable number of cases. I'm happy 
to have a go at setting this up if we think it's the right thing to do.

Putting a second .htaccess at that location may help.  I've not tried 
this technique.

Welcome to my evening yesterday! I tried that, but it turns out there's 
no prioritisation of the rules. So once you have one that redirects 
/wiki, it matches all /wiki/foo to i.a./jena/foo, which breaks. Using 
the ^ and $ anchors from RedirectMatch was the solution I came up with.

Glad it was useful. Having tried a few google searches it seems to be
catching most things. Presumably the permanent redirects will mean the
wiki vanishes from these searches?

(Annoying case: http://openjena.org/wiki/index.php?title=... came up
somehow)

Very minor, but you can simply use 'Redirect' [1] for these cases.
Maybe redirect ^/wiki to http://incubator.apache.org/jena as a catch
all for stray cases?

redirected the wiki as described below.

I had a look at generating these using a little ruby crawling and mahout. [1][2] Naturally this has taken a great deal more time than comparing each page manually. Results are included at the end of this email, and could easily be rejigged into an htaccess file. The form is:

<old uri> ->
   ...0 or more...
   <candidate apache uri> (<similarity score>)

The more astute reader will notice that I could have just compared the end of the uris :-)

Good plan - go for it.

I have a backup of the wiki so the whole thing can be killed now.  Feel 
free to remove all the Aliases for the wiki.

When we graduate and get a domain name, we can simply change 
openjena.org to CNAME to jena.a.o.  By that time, the fact it's brutal 
will not matter.  Anyone visiting would not have done so for a while so 
change is reasonable.

One softening would be to add a redirection landing page "You have 
arrived at this page because to visited openjena.org or 
jena.sourceforge.net - we've moved ...."

PS I used 302 while testing and switched to 301 when I thought it 
worked.  Various things remember 301 and take the "permanently" part 
seriously.
