Tapestry and FileUpload (was Re: cvs commit: jakarta-tapestry/support gump.xml)
I have to say that I am very disappointed to see this change. As I, and
others, have said on a couple of other lists, Gump exists to identify issues
with building the HEAD of each project against the HEAD of all of the
others. So the point is to *resolve* the issues introduced by incompatible
changes, not ignore them.
To that end, I offered, on both the Gump and Commons Dev lists, to help
resolve the problems introduced to the Tapestry code base by the recent
changes in Commons FileUpload. I have not been taken up on that offer by any
of the Tapestry developers (or anyone else interested in Tapestry, for that
matter).
I have even looked into submitting patches against the Tapestry code base to
resolve the build issues myself. However, as far as I have been able to
determine, there are no available instructions for how to actually build
Tapestry from scratch.
As the most active current Commons FileUpload committer, I have been doing
whatever I can to resolve client issues resulting from the recent changes to
the FileUpload API, across a number of projects. I would be happy to help
with Tapestry issues if someone from the Tapestry development community
would actually work with me.

This comment flies in the face of the factual data that Gump has been
generating over the past year and some change. Howard, I know you're new,
but check your data. Notice all those projects with white? Check their
dependencies.
Check into XP and continuous integration. Then you will know GUMP :-)

As the comments state, it is a temporary change. I just wanted the warnings
to go away. As soon as FileUpload does another release (beta-2?) I'll
change Tapestry to bundle that, compile against it, and revert the Gump
change.
Gump makes perfect sense when there are a number of sub-projects that are
distributed together, on the same release schedule. That's not the case
here.
